About Businesses
Section titled “About Businesses”The Businesses module is the central source of truth for all external partners, including suppliers, vendors, contractors, and regulators. It is the foundational layer of the UniCMMS Procurement engine: procurement activities are tied to verified, standardized business records so names, addresses, and tax context stay aligned across the product.
Key operational concepts

Section titled “1. Global data sharing”Unlike Assets or Work Orders, which are often site-specific, the Businesses directory is shared across the entire organization.
- Universal visibility — When a business is created in one site, it is immediately visible and available for use in all other sites.
- Consistency — Duplicate vendor cards are avoided; contact details, tax information, and addresses stay the same everywhere procurement references that business.
2. Operational guardrails (safety locks)
Section titled “2. Operational guardrails (safety locks)”UniCMMS protects data integrity with built-in rules:
- Dependency protection — The system blocks deletion of a business that is still linked to existing data (for example a historical Purchase Order or Receipt). That keeps your financial audit trail intact.
- Permission enforcement — If a user’s role does not grant Delete or Edit on businesses, those actions are not offered in the UI, so the global directory cannot be changed by mistake from an under-privileged account.
